The several times I have attempted to sow seeds, I have been spectacularly unsuccessful. But look at these sunflowers (tithonia rotundifolia)! I bought the seeds from one of my all-time favorite artist’s home/gardens, the Max Liebermann Villa outside of Berlin on Lake Wannsee. We spent a magical day there last year. I sowed the seeds five weeks ago, and they are ready to make the trek outside. I planted them in these tall, thin pots, called “forest tubes,” that I brought back from Sydney. In Australia, they’re common for growing the most excellent root systems. Wish they were commonly available over here.

Hmmm, so I might be able to get some seeds in this year, but will sow directly into the soil. I love your Red Ranch posts!

I’m so glad, Carol! The sunflowers are doing very well in the ground — the rains have certainly helped.
