When Friday comes round, we head to the hills, to Dancing Red Ranch, an hour door-to-door from our Hyde Park home. Nothing short of the momentous can keep us from our weekend retreat. The annual Mayfield “Trowel & Error” gardening symposium is one of the few things that will keep me away from the ranch in the spring.
That’s where I’ll be headed on Saturday morning. There will be speakers on drought-tolerant plants, tomato supports, and climbing vegetables. And a plant sale, and the “garden goodies” raffle. I won a handful of Oxblood Lily bulbs years ago, and have been planting more and more of them ever since.
I love spending a spring morning at Mayfield Park — it’s one of Austin’s hidden treasures. And it’s where I got married almost 12 years ago.
